Season 1997-98

The story behind the shirt

Ajax Amsterdam won the 1997-98 PTT Telecom championship in dominant fashion with 89 points from 34 games and a goal difference of 90. Under coach Morten Olsen, Shota Arveladze topped the scoring charts with 25 goals, followed by Jari Litmanen with 16 goals and Tijani Babangida with 12 goals. Ronald de Boer was the best provider with 10 assists, while Michael Laudrup contributed 9 assists. Besides the league title, Ajax also took part in the Amstel Cup and reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. A shirt from this season represents one of the strongest teams in Ajax's history.

Frequently asked questions

What condition are the shirts in?

Honest condition details, transparent 1-10 grading and high-resolution original photos - so you see exactly what you get.

Our vintage treasures have a history - and sometimes the odd battle scar.
We list every flaw plainly and give a clear score from 1 (to love anyway) to 10 (fresh out of the time machine). How we grade is explained in detail on our condition page.
We take the photos ourselves in the studio, high-resolution and without Photoshop touch-ups - you can see every seam, every thread and every heroically earned stain.

Is the shirt genuine?

Yes. We sell verified originals only - no fakes. We check every shirt by hand before it goes on sale: MPN (where available), material and feel, seams, details.

How does the sizing run?

Vintage shirts vary a lot depending on era and manufacturer - do not rely on the label alone. On every product page you find the chest width in cm (measured flat). Best compare it with a shirt that fits you well.

Can I pick up / try on in store?

Of course - drop by our store in Zurich and take a look at the shirts before buying (trying on included). Opening hours and address are here on the store page. What you see in the online shop is also in the store. During June/July some shirts are also at our pop-up in Zurich main station. Every shirt shows which location it is at.

How do I care for my vintage shirt?

So your shirt lasts - the essentials in short:
