Fussball in Zürich mit Kindern & Teenagern

Zurich with football-mad kids & teenagers

Churches, an art museum and a leisurely walk through the Old Town? Could work. But if your kids mainly want to know where the football is, Zurich has a few stronger arguments.

The city works surprisingly well as a football day out: from the FIFA Museum to original football shirts you can try on, all the way to Letzigrund Stadium. Three stops, one afternoon.

1. FIFA Museum

The obvious place to start is the FIFA Museum next to Zurich Enge station. It covers World Cups, national teams and the international history of football across three floors.

It works well with kids and teenagers because the display cases are mixed with interactive areas where they can have a go themselves. Current exhibitions are listed on fifamuseum.com.

Good to know: the museum is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays.

2. Hunt for a shirt at RetroShirts

After all those historic shirts in the museum, the next question is usually whether you can have one yourself. You can.

Our shop at Badenerstrasse 280 has over 900 original secondhand and vintage football shirts, from recent seasons back to the 1990s and earlier, covering Swiss clubs, international teams and national sides. Every shirt exists exactly once.

There is a dedicated kids' shirts section in the shop, and trying things on is very much encouraged.

From the museum: tram 8 from Bahnhof Enge to Stauffacher, then tram 2 or 3 to Zypressenstrasse. About 15 minutes.

Weekend warning: the shop is closed on Sundays and Mondays. If your museum visit falls on a Sunday, plan the shop for Saturday instead. Opening hours and directions

3. Letzigrund Stadium

Continue to Letzigrund, home to both FC Zürich and Grasshopper Club Zürich. From the shop it is about a kilometre along Badenerstrasse: five minutes by tram or ten to fifteen on foot.

If there is a match on during your visit, that is obviously the best way to finish a football day. And whoever ends up in the stands may already be wearing the right shirt.

The route at a glance

  1. FIFA Museum at Bahnhof Enge - about two hours
  2. RetroShirts at Badenerstrasse 280 - 15 minutes by tram
  3. Letzigrund - five minutes by tram

International football history, shirts you can actually touch and local football, all in one afternoon.
