FC Basel finished second in the Super League in the 2018-19 season under coach Marcel Koller, with 71 points from 36 games. Albian Ajeti scored 14 goals and provided 8 assists, while Ricky van Wolfswinkel netted 13. Basel also took part in the UEFA Europa League; in Champions League qualifying, the team was eliminated with a 0-3 defeat to PAOK.
