The story behind the shirt

FC Basel 1893 wurde in der Saison 2016-17 unter Trainer Urs Fischer Meister der Super League und belegte Platz 1. Seydou Doumbia war überragender Torschütze mit 20 Ligatoren sowie insgesamt 21 Toren im Swiss Cup. In der UEFA Champions League erreichte das Team die Gruppenphase und schied mit 2 Punkten aus 6 Spielen auf Platz 4 der Gruppe aus. Tore in der Königsklasse schossen Lukas Zuffi, Ricky Steffen und Doumbia jeweils einmal, Taulant Xhaka und Mario Janko steuerten je eine Vorlage bei. Basel traf dabei auf Top-Gegner wie Paris Saint-Germain (0-3 auswärts) und Arsenal (1-4 zu Hause).
