FC Basel belegte in der Saison 2018–19 unter Trainer Marcel Koller den zweiten Platz in der Super League mit 71 Punkten aus 36 Spielen. Albian Ajeti erzielte 14 Tore und 8 Vorlagen, Ricky van Wolfswinkel kam auf 13 Treffer. Basel nahm zudem an der UEFA Europa League teil; in der Champions-League-Qualifikation schied das Team mit einer 0:3-Niederlage gegen PAOK aus.
