The story behind the shirt

Everton spielte 1996–97 unter Joe Royle (ab März Dave Watson, ab Juni Howard Kendall) in der Premier League und belegte Platz 15 mit 42 Punkten. Top-Scorer war Duncan Ferguson mit zehn Toren, gefolgt von Gary Speed (9 Tore) und Andy Hinchcliffe (7 Vorlagen). Im League Cup schied Everton in der zweiten Runde aus, im FA Cup in der vierten Runde.
