      The story behind the shirt

      Worn in the season in which Real Madrid finished second in La Liga. After an early managerial change - José Antonio Camacho was replaced after a few weeks by Mariano García Remón, who in turn was replaced in December by Vanderlei Luxemburgo - the season was turbulent. Ronaldo stood out, finishing as top scorer in the Copa del Rey with 24 goals in total and again leading scorer in the UEFA Champions League with 24 goals, while netting 21 goals in the league. Despite these individual performances, Madrid ended up without a title in either domestic competition.
