Manchester City belegte in der Saison 2005–06 den 15. Platz in der Premier League, Andy Cole war mit neun Toren bester Torschütze. In der Folgesaison verbesserte sich der Club unter Stuart Pearce auf Platz 14. In beiden Spielzeiten nahm Manchester City zudem am FA Cup und League Cup teil.
