      The story behind the shirt

      A shirt from the season in which Bayern Munich won the Champions League. Under coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, the Munich side had a successful season: they became Bundesliga champions and secured the DFB-Ligapokal. The great triumph was winning the UEFA Champions League, with which Bayern reached the summit of European football. Giovane Elber was the outstanding goalscorer, netting 15 goals in the Bundesliga that season, as well as 21 goals in the DFB-Pokal and a further 21 goals in the Champions League. With this combination of domestic titles and triumph in European club football, this season ranks among the most successful in the club's history.
