Young Boys beendete die Super-League-Saison 2008–09 als Vizemeister mit 73 Punkten aus 36 Spielen und einem Torverhältnis von +39. Seydou Doumbia war mit 20 Toren der überragende Torschütze, Mario Raimondi steuerte zehn Tore und elf Assists bei. Unter Trainer Vladimir Petkovic, der im August übernahm, erreichte der Klub zudem das Finale des Schweizer Pokals und trat im UEFA Cup an. Ein Trikot dieser Saison steht für eine der stärksten offensiven Spielzeiten der Young Boys in jener Ära.
