Sporting CP beendete die Saison 2019-20 in der Liga NOS auf Platz vier mit 60 Punkten aus 34 Spielen. Bruno Fernandes steuerte acht Ligatore und sieben Assists bei, Jovane Cabral und Luiz Phellype trafen je sechsmal. In der UEFA Europa League erreichte die Mannschaft unter Rúben Amorim das Achtelfinale, setzte sich gegen Başakşehir mit 3:1 durch und besiegte PSV Eindhoven mit 4:0. Im Laufe der Saison standen Marcel Keizer, Leonel Pontes und Silas vor Amorim an der Seitenlinie.
