Serie D (Italy)

Serie D is the fourth highest division in Italian football. It was founded in 1992 under the name *Campionato Nazionale Dilettanti* and is divided into eight regional groups, in which a total of 160 teams compete. Promoted teams move up to Serie C, relegated teams drop down to the Eccellenza. The league represents the semi-professional and amateur level of Italian football and thus forms an important link between grassroots sport and professional football.
