He then made the leap into international football, playing for CSKA Moscow, TSG Hoffenheim, Eintracht Frankfurt and AEK Athens, before returning to the Super League over ten years later to join GC's arch-rival FC Zürich. Born in Winterthur, the attacking midfielder played in his youth for FC Winterthur and moved to the Grasshoppers in 2006. He made his Super League debut in the 2008-09 season, gradually establishing himself in the starting eleven the following season, 2009-10. His greatest success with GC came in the 2012-13 season, when the Grasshoppers won the Swiss Cup. In total, Steven Zuber made 146 appearances, scoring 33 goals and providing 22 assists for the Grasshoppers. In his international career, he won the Russian championship with CSKA Moscow and the Greek championship with AEK Athens. He made a total of 56 appearances for the Swiss national team, scoring 11 goals.
