The Albanian-Swiss winger played as a junior at FC Zürich and made the breakthrough into the first team during the title-winning season 2005-06. From the 2007-08 season, he played for various Super League clubs. From the 2012-13 season, he played for the Grasshoppers, where he contributed a goal to the Swiss Cup win and scored five goals in 28 appearances in the Super League. He then achieved his breakthrough in the 2013-14 season, when his 19 goals in 32 matches made him the Super League's top scorer. This move earned Gashi a transfer to FC Basel, where he won the title the following season and was once again the league's top scorer with 22 goals.
